The book of John presents much material that can be found in Matthew, Mark, and Luke, but it also presents a number of "cases" which the others do not present. It is for that reason that the author has chosen the book for special study. The extra material presented by John gives us a more complete account of Jesus' life. None of the first three books of the New Testament give any of the following:

1. Jesus as the Word in the beginning with God. (ch. 1)

2. The marriage feast in Cana of Galilee. (ch. 2)

3. The visit of Nicodemus with Jesus. (ch. 3)

4. The conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman. (ch.4)

5. The adulterous woman brought to Jesus by those who hoped to see her condemned. (ch. 8)

6. The blind man who was healed by Jesus and later cast out by his fellow Jews. (ch. 9)

7. The great relationship between the shepherd and the sheep. (ch. 10)

8. The death and resurrection of Lazarus. (ch. 11)

9. The washing of the disciples' feet. (ch. 13)

10. The relationship of the vine and the branches. (ch.15)

11. The extended prayer of Jesus for the unity of His disciples. (ch. 17)

12. And only John closes his book with these fascinating words: "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose the even world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen."
